A Sleepy Boy

Eddie is a power-napper. He generally will only nap for 20-30 minutes at a time. Needless to say, this drives me crazy because I cannot get anything done! I didn't even realize this was strange until I saw how my niece Riley will nap for 3 hours at a time. How would that be?! Because of this tendency of Eddie's, I'm always surprised when he takes a longer nap. This is a story about just such a situation...

Our church starts at 1:00, so I generally try to work it out so that Eddie eats just before we leave. That way, he'll sleep through sacrament meeting at least and I won't have to feed him at church. Well, last Sunday, he was fighting the urge to sleep all morning long. He took a couple little tiny naps during the morning. Then, around 11:00, he ate. Afterwards, he fell asleep, so I put him in his swing so he would keep sleeping. Then I went about my business -- eating lunch, getting dressed, etc. Finally at 12:20, Eddie was still sleeping. Unfortunately, because of our church time, I had to wake him up. I turned off the swing, pulled him out, changed his diaper, and he looked like this:

He was still out! I laid down next to him and tickled his arms and said his name, trying to gently wake him. Occasionally, he'd crack an eye open to check me out.

It took me about 10 minutes to wake him up enough for him to eat. He ate for 5 minutes and was asleep again, so we strapped him in his car seat and went to church. I kept thinking he was going to wake up all through sacrament meeting, but he didn't. So between sacrament and Sunday school, I unstrapped him in case we needed to quickly get him out of his seat. That didn't wake him up, either. Finally, I took him to Relief Society and then he woke up. By my calculations, he took a 4 hour nap (with a brief meal in the middle). I think I could get used to that if he were to make it a habit. Or perhaps he was just using his Sunday as the Lord intended -- as his day of rest so that he can take 20 minute naps all week long and drive his momma crazy.

I wish you good luck in your quest to run two blogs...Becky and I can't even post once a week on our blog...I guess if we had a child, it'd give us something to blog about, though :)

Neil was a power napper when he was really small(and it drove me crazy too). I can't remember when it changed, but hopefully Ed will grow into taking longer naps. I think when it became more of a schedule-- one morning nap, one afternoon nap. Now he still sleeps for a couple hours in the afternoon.
